Why does MATLAB R2011a (7.12) crash when I type QUIT after plotting a specific image, while it works fine otherwise?

I am running MATLAB on a linux machine that I am remotely accessing. When I type "plot(rand(9,223),'b+')" followed by "quit" on the Command Window, MATLAB crashes. In all other cases it works fine.

The issue is due to outdated graphics card drivers. Updating the drivers that are being used for displaying the figures should help in avoiding this behavior.
