Is it possible to import EDF files to MATLAB 7.7 (R2008b)?

I would like to import EDF (European Data Format) files to analyze my electrocardiograph data.

There is no tool to directly import and parse EDF files in MATLAB.
As a workaround, the FOPEN, FREAD, and FCLOSE commands can be used to import the binary file. The binary data can then be parsed using the file specification described by:
<http://www.edfplus.info/specs/edf.html>
For an example of using FREAD to import a partial EDF file, see the attached document.
