I appreciate how you keep at it even after you found the calendar function! I confess I never knew about calendar.m until today!

I cleaned things up a little.

Ned Gulley submitted a Comment to Problem 660. Find a subset that divides the vector into equal halves

Hassan, where are you getting an internal server error? Maybe leave your comment on the solution that has the related error? I'm guessing that your solution relies on randomness, so if you don't get lucky, the answer will time out. You may get lucky on your computer, but not on the Cody server.

Ned Gulley submitted a Comment to Problem 2268. Given a number between 1-365 (a day number in a non leap year) , find what day of what month it is.

Hi Hassan: Thanks for the problem! You might want to be clear that this is for (I assume) a non leap year.

Good point! That complicates things nicely. I added a new example and corresponding test case that reflects my understanding of the 2048 rules.

Ned Gulley submitted a Comment to Problem 2259. Best Fit RMS

Nice problem Swapnali! Since it has a floating-point answer, you should specify how many significant digits you're looking for, or include a tolerance term in your test suite.

Ned Gulley submitted a Comment to Problem 1720. Do the lines intersect?

Hi Celestino. I added a little bit more clarifying text to the problem statement. That's an interesting test case, but not one I will use for this problem. You could make your own extension to this problem, though!

Ned Gulley submitted a Comment to Problem 2215. Power supply: 230V to 115V

J-G, thanks for the problem. Could you add some more information about expected inputs and outputs? An example and some more tests would be helpful too. If your test suite has exactly one test, it's trivial to write a correct answer.

Ned Gulley submitted a Comment to Problem 317. Find the stride of the longest skip sequence

I added another test and rescored. It appears that DIST no longer works. The DIST function is from the Neural Networks Toolbox. It shouldn't have worked in the past, but since it did, it played a part in a lot of answers. Sorry for the discontinuity.

Ned Gulley submitted a Comment to Problem 660. Find a subset that divides the vector into equal halves

Aryaa: Your solution looks good. The problem is that combnk is in the Statistics Toolbox, and Cody is designed to use only functions from basic MATLAB.

Ned Gulley submitted a Comment to Problem 2118. Test of Quiz

Hi Petr: Keep in mind that your test suite isn't hidden in Cody. For that reason, Cody isn't the best place to ask questions that have a single correct answer (i.e. the answer doesn't change depending on novel inputs).

Ned Gulley submitted a Comment to Problem 2068. Determine the square root

I made the suggested change to the test suite and re-scored.

I cleaned up the test.

Ned Gulley submitted a Comment to Problem 660. Find a subset that divides the vector into equal halves

I added a new test. I periodically strengthen test suites to defeat look-up table strategies.

Clever! If the system doesn't work properly, work around it.

Ned Gulley submitted a Comment to Problem 1927. Find nth maximum

I went ahead and made the test suite change that José suggested above.

Ned Gulley submitted a Comment to Problem 1912. Local Minima

on 4 Oct 2013

Ned Gulley submitted a Comment to Problem 1812. Tridiagonal

I fixed the test suite so that n is used instead of d.
