MOtion DEcision (MODE) model is a neural model of perceptual decision-making.

MODE model: Medium coherence case

Decision cells and decision gating (Reaction time task)

While model middle temporal and medial superior temporal areas compute the veridical global motion direction of the dots as much as possible, model lateral intraparietal area computes the stochastic perceptual decision by transforming the spatially distributed medial superior temporal motion signals (sensory) into a saccadic eye movement (motor). In the reaction time task, a decision is reached when one of the competing lateral intraparietal cells first reaches a threshold (55 units). The basal ganglia release the gate for the chosen saccade when the threshold is reached in the reaction time task. (Blue refers to the lateral intraparietal cell coding the right choice target and red to that for the left target.)
