This program downloads hourly climate data from Environment Canada and then plucks the wind data.

Description

THIS PROGRAM USES THE URLWRITE COMMAND (LIBCURL) TO DOWNLOAD HOURLY CLIMATE DATA FROM THE ENVIRONMENT CANADA WEBSITE. CURL SUPPORTS HTTP, FTP AND FILE PROTOCOLS.

WIND DATA IS THEN PLUCKED FROM THE DOWNLOADED FILES AND SAVED IN A CSV FILE WHICH CAN LATER BE ANALYSED IN WRPLOT OR A SIMILAR PROGRAM, SEE http://www.weblakes.com/products/wrplot/index.html

OUTPUT FILE COLUMN ORDER IS YEAR, MONTH, DAY, HOUR, DIRECTION, SPEED

GO TO http://climate.weatheroffice.ec.gc.ca/climateData/canada_e.html TO FIND THE STATION ID OF THE LOCATION OF INTEREST

THE USER IS BOUND BY THE LICENSE AGREEMENT FOR USE OF ENVIRONMENT CANADA DATA, SEE http://climate.weatheroffice.ec.gc.ca/prods_servs/tables/attachment1_e.html

THIS CODE CAN BE EASILY MODIFIED TO PLUCK HOURLY TEMPERATURE DATA INSTEAD OF OR IN ADDITION TO WIND DATA.

MATLAB release MATLAB 7.7 (R2008b)
Other requirements Written for MATLAB or Octave. Tested with Octave-forge 3.2.3 on OS X 10.4.11 and GNU Octave 3.2.2 on Windows XP.

This code has some errors in it. I had to change " to ' at lines 20,32,36 and 50. I am able to run the first and second routines, but the third one gives me a couple of errors. I am not sure how to fix them.

But apart from that, this code is very helpful for my work! Thanks..
