Threshold microscope images and calculate object area fractions.
The goal of this function is to threshold microscope images and calculate object area fractions (in our application, objects being platelets) with the output being the binary images and area fraction information. This is done using an on-the-fly processing approach for increased speed and lower memory utilization.
