A shape describing the response of a ring of point sensors to signals arriving from different directions in space. The distance of the surface from the centre of the object is proportional to the response of the ring in that direction. The shape is up/down symmetric, with a central main lobe pointing up at 45 degrees, and surrounded by a complicated structure of 'side-lobes'.
