This upload contains a hybrid Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm for functions in the real space. An options file is also provided, which lets the user fully parameterize the process. The hybrid function used is the @fminsearch, which is available on the MATLAB core. The PSO performs very well on highly non-linear problems, and the hybrid option makes it perform on simple problems the same well as the ordinary hill-climbing algorithms.

It would have been extremely helpful had the author provided a good example to illustrate his program. for new bees it would be impossible to know what and how to use this program. Please help. Thanks much.

Hello,

Thanks for this submission. It is one of the few optimisation routines on the file exchange that can take a function handle as an input... very useful for black box optimisation.

When I debug the file "hpso" there is an error as following :
??? Input argument "nvars" is undefined.

Error in ==> hPSO at 45
for i=1:nvars
I don't know how to solve it. Please help me thanks!

Fairly easy to use after a little experimentation. I liked it, even though I'd need some more practice to make it hum along properly. A minor point - the property/value pair interface was a bit picky. I'd have liked to see unambiguous property name shortenings and case insensitivity in the property names. All in all, good job.
