Hey Nicola. The reason is that we have many labels that can be used in each state. When you decrease the number of training images per person from 5 to 1, the HMM model does not have enough sequence/data to work with. The transition and emission probabilities become dangerously sparse with lots of zeros (or do not change much from the initial probabilities). That is why the recognition accuracy declines.

Hey Steve! Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately svmclassify and svmtrain functions are part of the Bioinformatic toolbox. So if you do not have that toolbox, there is no way to run this program. Sorry ...

Thank you for all your comments and questions. One of the most question that I get all the time is the bugs. This program only works with MATLAB version 7.1 and later. Also you need to have image processing and neural network toolbox installed.

Also recently I have heard that there is also a program with MATLAB x64. Please inform me if the program works on x64 or not. Thank you.

Great code! Quick question, can we train the code to detect more faces, by adding more sample faces in the face folder? I would like to have the code detect the face when the person only shows one side of his/her face. Thank you
