Try this:

X2=[1 2]
X2 = 1 2
>> X1=[ 6 7]
X1 = 6 7
>> minksum(X1,X2)
ans =7 9

the answer should be 7 8 9

In order to convert to 2-D you just have to change the appropriate dimensions of matrices. You can also use the code as is and ignore one of the outputs.
