Works as advertised! Additionally, h=plottable(x) returns the handle for each axis in the table (each value is plotted in its own axis).

Hi, Val. Would you try the following change:

mask = conv2(mask,ones(Nx,Ny)/(Nx*Ny),'same');
->
mask = conv2(double(mask),ones(Nx,Ny)/(Nx*Ny),'same');

In my environment(win xp, R200b + IP toolbox), it works well.
