Trying to install Matlab 7.0.1 R14 Service Pack 1 on Windows
Server 2003, after I click setup.exe the splash screen shows
up for a second and then disappears. No errors in the logs
of JVM or windows could be found after. The CPU is a quad
core Intel. Any ideas?
PS Tried to set MATLAB_RESERVE_LO value to 0 doesn't make
any differense too....

For me the solution with that new variable worked but it was
for Matlab R2007b.
Could you check if you put a zero in the '_LO' part of the
variable name instead of an O? It happened with me!

I have the same problem. I have a Core 2 Duo 6400
processor, windows xp sp2 and matlab R2007b. I tried
MATLAB_RESERVE_LO and value 0, MATLAB_RESERVE_L0 and value
0 but none work. The problem happens before the
installation dialog after the splash screen.

I think understood this problem wrong.
I was able to install Matlab. The problem only showed up
after the installation and when I tried to start Matlab. So,
I don't know if the problem with the installation can be
solved in the same way.
I had a similar problem with 2009a... I updated java, tried the ENV variable... then I tried from a different computer, and the same thing happened. I think what happened, is that I accidentally ran Installer.exe from the matlab folder, which began extracting the installer... then I canceled it and ran setup.exe. Setup.exe was corrupted (or some random file that it uses), so rerunning Installer.exe and letting it extract the setup files worked for me. Once that completes, try setup.exe again.
