Slow fopen with bluetooth?

I am using a bluetooth dongle to create a virtual serial port on my PC.
When I try to use fopen to open it it takes over 45 seconds. (with a real serial port it would take far less than 1 sec).

Wondering if anyone else has seen this. In particular wondering if its a matlab issue
or an issue with my bluetooth driver/software (BlueSoliel 6.2). If the later, is there some setting that can improve the fopen speed?

As far as matlab I am not doing anything unsual
a = serial('com16') ;
fopen(a);

I actually am not even able to open the COM port when it is connected to bluetooth. What version of matlab do you have?

I have discovered this sort of stuff is really all about the bluetooth driver you have. Its not really malab's fault. ry a different brand or update the driver.
