[Note: The following is based upon my personal experience,
and is *NOT* a communication from Mathworks.]

A heads-up for those who have posted questions (especially
via MatlabCentral) and have not seen any responses --
and for those of you who have posted responses via Usenet
and seemingly had them ignored.

Those who have only ever used Mathworks' "Newsreader"
might not be aware that not all of the messages seen
via Newsreader are posted using the Newsreader software.
Instead, Mathworks' Newsreader is one way to access a
widely-distributed Usenet newsgroup named
comp.soft-sys.matlab . Any particular posting seen in
Newsreader might have been made by someone else using
Newsreader, or it might have been made by someone who
seldom or never uses Newsreader and is using some other
method of accessing the Usenet newsgroup.

Normally, when someone posts a message using Newsreader, a
copy of the posting is sent out to the comp.soft-sys.matlab
Usenet newsgroup, and normally when someone posts using
one of the many interfaces to the Usenet newsgroup, a copy
of the posting appears automatically on Mathworks' Newsreader.

Unfortunately, since about 04:00 GMT Friday August 31,
something has gone wrong with the automatic copying of
Usenet postings into Mathworks' Newsreader. A small number
of Usenet postings make it through, but most do not. There
have been many replies from direct Usenet users to
Newsreader users, but most of those replies have not made
it to Newsreader.

If you are a Newsreader user and have posted something and
have seen few or no replies, then please be aware that
replies might have been made, possibly within minutes, but
that those replies might not have made it back to
Newsreader. If you have posted a question in the last week
via Newsreader, then it is recommended that you check
for replies through another interface, such as Google Groups
http://groups.google.com/group/comp.soft-sys.matlab

If you are a comp.soft-sys.matlab Usenet user and have seen
your replies ignored, please understand that the person
you were replying to might not have seen your reply, and
other people who reply might not have seen your reply
either. If the topic appears to be of some urgency,
while this problem lasts, you might consider emailing a
copy of your answer or a reference to your answer
(if the poster used a usable email address), or you might
consider making the posting via the "MATLAB Newsgroup"
section of http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral
(requires logging in -- account is free, but the account
creation process requests that you provide some personal
information.)

Matlab Central is aware of the problem, but has not
given an estimate of when the problem will be repaired.
Also, when the problem does get fixed, I do not know
whether the missing postings will get "filled in".
