When asking for "help" on homework, it is considered polite
that first you put some effort on the homework itself before
asking others to do it for you.

That doesn't count as putting in effort on the homework. Will
your professor give you credit for typing this and doing a
screen capture?

That is because the professionals who are regulars in
technical newsgroups consider "help" on homework to
consist of teaching, rather than just doing the homework
for the students. And so they take the time to instruct you
on the best way to get help, rather than simply doing
the problem for you.

However, if you really want somebody to just do the problem
for you, give me your teacher's e-mail address and I'll send
in a solution.

Alas, this is a common response from students who got
the help they needed (patient instruction), rather than the
"help" they wanted (cheating).
