Hello:
I am trying to save a matrix as .mat file like that:
save('myfile.mat','matrix','-mat');
It creates in Matlab work folder file myfile without extension(.mat).
The type of this file is Microsoft Office Access Table Shortcut.
What is wrong?
How to fix the problem?

Thanks,
GB

Windows is hiding the extensions for the files it thinks it
recognizes. It also thinks that .mat means Microsoft Access Table
Shortcut. You should show extensions for known file types (an option
under "tools"-->"folder options" in any windows explorer window),
and you should also change the file association for the .mat
extension. You can do that under one of the tabs in the "folder
options" gui, also.

Hi,

I'm having the same problem. When I go to tools-->Folder Options--> and uncheck "hide all known extensions" nothing changes. All my .csv, .xls, ect are shown, but not the .mat (which still is being shown at a microsoft access table).

When I use the file type GUI to manually change .MAT, is shows is at being changed, but I was unable to apply it. Also, nothing changed, it still attempted to open in Access (I have Access 97 and 2010beta). I cannot right click and go to "open with" because there isn't an option..only open, which leads me back to access.

Some help is really appreciated.

For reference, I tried these methods:

http://www.ehow.com/how_2052279_change-file-type-associations-windows.html

On step 10, there is no "Open with..." button in the "Properties" window.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Change-the-program-that-opens-a-type-of-file

Again, no "open with" option.

Thanks!

Hi,

If you just have just a few files, then the following method might work:

1. load the matrix under a variable name.
2. make sure the variable name appears on the workspace
3. right click on the variable name on the work space and an option for 'save as' will appear
4. then you can save the matrix with the name you like.

I hope this might help

Hi... I solved this problem by going to "Folder Option" ... "File Types"...
Since I could not get it to change by using the "Change" button... I just clicked "New"... and did the association again....
It worked! The only thing now is that, when I double click... it says that the mat file is not a valid win32 application. However, when I right click, an additional option is added to the popup.. "Import into Matlab"... works ok for me :D
