When I try to use remote desktop (on winXP), to demonstrate some
features to a customer, I get a license error from Matlab.
Is this a bug or this a policy ?

I searched thos forum and found a few messages,
but couldn't find much more than "try this .. / try that ..".

Someone suggested VNC, but I think that's a completeley different
approach, not well suited as an remote desktop replacement.

I can think of one solution, but I don't think it's a good solution
(just install the Matlab licensed to me, (illegal ?) on the customer's
PC).

thanks,
Stef Mientki

Hi!

These two pages seems to discuss remote desktop and ML. I'll leave the
reading to you...

I've used realVNC (http://www.realvnc.com/) and MATLAB R14 (V7) under
winXP together without any problems. realVNC was very easy to
configure and use.

Yes, I use realVNC too,
but only to watch my customer's screen,
not the other way around !!
VNC has some major disadavntages
- the called PC, must answer to the request
- you're fixed to the screen resolution of the called PC
These properties makes VNC useless for this application.

Hi,
I have a problem with remote desktop as well. I read the support site
and I don't understand where I should send which IP (they don't give
an email, and the IP of the matlab computer or the remote computer?).
Does anyone have any idea?
Thanks,
Danielle

Contact Technical Support and include in your message the number of the
document you read on the support website.

Hi,
I tried contacting Technical Support in my country, but apparently my
company stopped paying for technical support about two years ago. I
do not understand why Remote Desktop is a problem with matlab. The
license is for one computer at a time, and if I connect with remote
desktop no-one else can use the computer. I do not understand why we
need to pay extra fees to get an option that should be there to begin
with (and does indeed exist in later versions of matlab - apparently
I am not the only one who thinks so!)
Is there any way around this?
Thanks,
Danielle

You can configure VNC such that the server allows connections without
confirmations.

This is true. However, you can change the resolution of the screen on
the fly (i.e. using VNC on your client's PC).
