Thread Subject: silly plotting question

I really should know this...

but i have a figure with a 2d plot, then (with hold on) i
issue a command

plot (x,y,'o')

where (x,y) is out of the current displayed region. Hence,
nothing is displayed. How do i say "extend to fit the new
point"?
