Is there any function same as uigetdir for R12.1 of MATLAB
that will also work with higher versiob Releases of MATLAB?

I'm not sure if the javacomponent function was available
back in 12.1, but if so then you can use it with the
javax.swing.JFileChooser java class. See the screenshot here
for an example:

If you're using Windows, you can also use UIGETFOLDER from
the File Exchange that works on R12:

It's actually one of the best-reviewed FEX submissions.
