How to remove/ reset the area to plot a new image

[a,b]= uigetfile('C:\MATLAB6p5\work\test_img\*.JPG');
file=[b,a];
subplot(2,2,3);
imshow(imread(file));
handles.metricdata.pushbutton1=file;
guidata(hObject,handles)
%%%%%%%%

 The above code helps to accept a new input image from a
location and plots it in the GUI created.
But again during the select a new image the gui should get
reset.

          "How can I achive that?"

clf(), or delete() the figure, or delete() the axis.
