Subject: Matlab startup problems

I'm running MATLAB 7.4 R2007a Student Version on a PC tablet
running Windows Vista Business, and I've been having
problems with MATLAB freezing while it's starting up. Most
of the time when I open MATLAB, the main screen pop's up,
begins to initialize the command prompt, and just stops
there (no command prompt, no functionality whatsoever). One
funny thing with it is I have Softex Omnipass (fingerprint
reader software) installed as well, and it starts going
bezerk whenever I try to start MATLAB (usually around 50%
resource usage right when I open MATLAB). Is there any known
conflicts between MATLAB and Omnipass that I should know
about, and any fixes for it? I'd rather not uninstall
Omnipass though. Or is this problem just something weird
altogether? Any help would be appreciated.

All I have to do is make the (in my case) the R2007a folder
in the specified location, right? Unfortunately, the folder
is already there, with a bunch of data. Thanks though.

Should I clear the existing folder and make a new one? Or
could it be related to something else?

Looks like link #2 fixed it. Got MATLAB to start
successfully 3 times in a row (a new record!). Thanks!

Just one random question: What in the world was the "-a" for?

Hey saw ur prob. can u tell me wic graphic card u using? i guess try
by disabling ur graphic card OPEN GL or 3D accelerator if its on.
similar prob was with me although i m using win XP but it worked by
disabling the graphics card OPEN GL n 3D..

have u tried running ur matlab in safe mode? if its works in safe mode
then its very clear tht the matlab is conflicting wid ur graphic
card..

hope ur prob gets solved..

bst wishes

I have no idea what the "-a" is for!
Glad the link helped.

STARTDIR is a windows command (not MATLAB). I don't know
what -a is for, but do you mind if I make a wild guess? I
think it stands for "append". That way, the new method
just creates a new startup directory and does not just
append the new one to the list.
