I would like to know if it is possible to create a matrix with only characters. When I tried, each time I have a mistake.

what did you try so far?
eg

     cm=[
          'abc'
          'd e'
          'fg '
          'hij'
     ]
     whos cm;

Personally I avoid that syntax. I consider it to be a historical
aberation, that when creating matrices, Matlab source lines not
terminated by a continuation indicator (the three periods) are treated
as if they end with a semi-colon (';'), resulting in a vertical splice.
It's never caused me anything other than trouble (i.e., accidently
omit a ... and run into problems because the matrix is a completely
different shape than I expected.)
