Thread Subject: export bitmap with painters?

Subject: export bitmap with painters?

Here's my dilemma:

I want to save a figure rendered with painters, then read it
back into matlab as an image. But it looks like you can only
use painters as a renderer when exporting to vector-based
image formats, and imread cant import any of those. And I
can't use getframe because the figure is not visible on the
screen (and there's no chance im gonna make it visible.) Is
there any way to do this?
