From one of my previous posts I suspect that the matlabcentral newsreader does some unwanted auto-formatting in addition to the known 'hiding empty lines' problem: multiple spaces were contracted to a single one. Such an auto-formatting can be quite annoying if you post code...
Here are some test lines (copied from Notepad):
numel(' ') % 4 spaces
numel(' ') % 3 spaces
numel(' ') % 2 spaces
numel(' ') % 1 space
Please ignore this if the right amount of space characters shows up.
