I have some sound files that were recorded with an electronic stethoscope. I need to find the heart rate and respiratory rate of these sound files. Is there any source code out there that does this or is there an algorithm someone knows of I could use? How would I calculate that?

I need to be able to read in the wave file and then determine the respiratory rate/ventilation rate and heart rate.

I don't have any code, but you should look at the following functions:

wavread -- reads an MS .wav file

fft - transforms temporal data into frequency

Should be pretty simply to find the spikes that correlate to the various sounds you're looking for after you fft the data output by wavread.
