Yes, there is a way. It requires a simulink block called vNPlantBlock. Unfortunately it only works for older versions of MATLAB 7.0 or older. I am trying to look for a better one though. There needs to be a place on the MathWorks website that lists all the software that can link to Simulink/MATLAB and have the code needed to establish that link where possible.

Thanks Aaron. Actually I have matlab 2008a and even I can't see the block 'vNPlant'. In the Mathworks website there is a browsing library MSC.visualNastran 4D and this exists only Matlab 5.5 to Matlab 6.5 (I guess). Did you find anything that works for Matlab 2008a? And if you have any other source code that make interface between matlab and nastran could you please pass it to me. Thanks for your help.

SDT/FEMLink from SDTools supports writting complete NASTRAN jobs (model, properties, and all bulk cards for the job), calling NASTRAN on the local machine or a remote one, then reading the binary output (op2 or op4).

This is in particular used to dialog with Simulink, typically to generate state-space models.

This should do the trick :

system('path_to_Nastran.exe somebdf.bdf')
system('C:\MSC.Software\MD_Nastran\bin\mdnastranw.exe somebdf.bdf')
