Ok, 2 new spams come up and get 10-15 hits within minutes on the matlab newsreader... the first 5 of you readers could have saved the rest of us from even seeing those messages if you just hit the 'flag as spam' link in the newsreader. Don't bother tagging it, hit the flag as spam link and make it go away!

I don't believe they're tagging it. I think once I was the first one
to flag a particular message as spam, and the Mathworks Newsreader
automatically added the spam tag for me. (I could be wrong on that.)
But I do agree with you that there's no sense to open it up and then
just not flag it as spam.

Maybe they (like me) were using Google Groups as their newsreader
where there is no obvious way of marking a posting as spam.

I'm not sure the Mathworks newsreader asks Google how many times
people brought up a post, but I doubt it. I think the Mathworks
newsreader just lists views on itself, not globally over all
newsreaders. Google does have some nice features though (such as
showing which of your posts got replied to, being able to search back
to 1994, etc.) I just wish I could have message filters for it. The
spam flagger is a nice feature for a small closed environment like
Mathworks but I'm not sure it would work for a globally accessible
newsreader like Google (people would spam-can some posts just because
they disagree with them).

Thanks for pointing this out. We have reproduced this error and have escalated the problem to MATLAB Central engineering.

Thanks again,
Helen

Helen:
I think you meant to reply to the other thread that mentioned that the
spam flagging capability was broken. This thread just lamented the
fact that people read but don't flag, and lamented the fact that the
Mathworks newsreader doesn't have some nice features that Google has
such as putting at the bottom a list of threads (with links) that
you've recently posted to, or the ability to view a thread as a tree
structure so that you can really tell who replied to whom. Those
would be nice value-added features (in addition to fixing the broken
spam flagger).
Thanks,
ImageAnalyst
