I tried the sample code using xylophone.mpg and clock.avi, works fine with both. However I was not able to run it on .wmv files format

Any suggestions?

using matlab to play any kind video format is practically a waste of time. there are about 4 or 5 simple codecs that's it. there are no DirectX hooks, no QT hooks, NOTHING. YUV support is generally non-existent. nothing for h.264 or mpeg4. it's a joke. go grab Media Player Classic Homecinema version from Sourceforge, install ffdshow or xvid codecs, and you'll be able to play anything. head over to the Doom9 forum real information about codecs and processing. no one here seems to have a clue.

Hi, Chaos & others.
I think it may give the wrong impression to say MATLAB only supports a small number of codecs. It is true that they only have built-in support for a small number. However, normally users should be able to apply third-party codecs installed on their computer. For example, I have successfully used Xvid many times from within MATLAB to both encode and decode. That is only because I installed the Xvid codec separately onto my computer. On the other hand, I am having a problem with H.264, and don't know why. Presumably because I have somehow installed an encoder without a standalone decoder (ignoring decoders built in to some other software that MATLAB may not be able to access, like codecs built into VLC Media Player [as I understand it]).
