Hello, I have some x,y data of pulses which have a sharp rise and slow decay from some experiments on the release of calcium ions inside cells. I need to characterise the pulses and it would seem sensible to go for the basic parameters of rise time deacya half-time and maybe exponential curve fitting. I'm not a programmer, so I wondered if anyone knows of a program that already written to do this please? Thank you, David (Leicester UK)

Hi David,

I'm not sure what you mean by x,y data. Do you have 1D signals / images / videos / something else?

From your description, I presume one of the dimensions is time... linescan images obtained using confocal microscopy are used for imaging brief calcium events and often denoted x,t (one spatial and one time dimension), whereas full frame videos can be denoted x,y,t (two spatial dimensions and one time).

There has been some software described in the literature for detecting and analysing brief calcium events (e.g. calcium sparks) in both of these types of image, although I don't know if they would be appropriate for your data. If you let me know more about the sort of data you have, maybe in an email, I might be able to be more use.
