Thread Subject: strings using xlsread

Hi,
I have data set with strings and numbers in a excel . I want to split the data using xlsread depends on the strings for example
name year data
yy 1990 34
yy 1991 35
yy 1992 45
ca 1990 23
ca 1991 34
ca 1992 40

I had the same problem last summer.

My solution was to use a macro in Excel to separate lines with "yy" and "ca" (very simple even with Excel). Then you get a sheet or a range with all "yy" data that you can send to xlsread.

Don't forget:Matlab uses Excel as a COM server. So, it is recommended to deal with Excel before Matlab.
