Thread Subject: evaluating an expression

When evaluating highlighted code in the Matlab Editor Window the code is copied into the Command Window (at least in R14). This is an awful nuisance, since it fills up the Command Window with basically useless lines, making it difficult to revisit useful lines with the up arrow key. Is there any way to prevent the above from happening? In earlier versions (5.1 for example) the above problem was absent.
