I am a new matlab user and having some trouble searching an array of strings.

I created this array from excel using MLPutMatrix. The column I sent from excel contains blanks and strings. When I try search the array using ismember I get an error stating: Input must be cell arrays of strings.

I am sure the array I am using as the search criteria is OK since I tested it in ismember using another cell array that I created in the command window.

The cell array I created using MLPutMatrix has single quotes around the strings and some of the cells are NaN or 0 depending on the setting for NaN. I am guessing that the problem is the NaN or 0 entries or the single quotes. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

George
