How do I check if I have a particular toolbox ??
I want to see if I have the distributed computing toolbox, but I'd also like to know how I can check whether or not I have any toolbox in general.

And you'll find what matlab version you have and which toolboxes and simulink blocksets you have.

Anyone doing some research on heavy-tails and power law distributions
and simulations in matlab???

There's two easy ways, among others. Both assume that what you really
mean is what toolboxes you have _licenses_ for.

(1) fire up the install and follow along a little ways
    and it will tell you what tooloboxes you are licensed for.
(2) check your license file- it is plain text and lists
    the licensed toolboxes as "INCREMENT" lines
