Numerical reference to handle classes

Subject: Numerical reference to handle classes

Hi. I am trying to write a 'unique' function for a handle class I've made.

The class has inherited 'eq', 'gt', etc. methods from the 'handle' superclass, but there is no 'sort' or 'unique'. The 'eq' method apparently uses a numerical reference (probably the same as the familiar numerical reference in the handle graphics class), and I would like to get at that numerical value. Unfortunately, I cannot figure out how.

Now, I could implement my 'unique' function by explicitely assigning an ID property to my class, but I find that a bit awkward. Also, if there is an easy way to get at this numerical reference, I could use this for sorting cell arrays of objects of different (handle) classes.

Anyone know how to do this?
