bwlabel without image processing toolbox

I have a binary image with many connected regions, and I want to eliminate all those regions with area below some threshold, while keeping the larger ones. I think bwlabel or bwconncomp would be useful for this, but I don't have the image processing toolbox. Does anyone know of a FEX file that does something similar, or just a good way to do it in matlab?

Thanks

If by 'connected' you mean 4-connected, then my Islands submission will work.

That's exactly what I meant, thanks.
