MATLAB R2009b can't install on Windows 7

When I run the Setup.exe of MATLAB R2009b, the installation disappeared. But the Setup.exe is always running in background.

Got the same problem ...

Hi. The problem is clear. To install it you just need to disable your internet connection.
The problem is that each time you should disable it to start Matlab.

Try running setup.exe as administrator...

I've got the same problem. I'm running windows 7 professional 64bit
and I cant install matlab... I've already tried both of your tips with
MATLAB 2009b and 2008a versions and the result is the same.

Disconnect from the Internet, and restart the installation process
again.

Have you tried to install it in Windows 7 using the 'install using windows XP settings' this is a feature in Windows 7 that allows you to install as XP.

I've tried that too and it didn't work.
After several tries I finally could install matlab 2009b 32bit version. It gave me an installation error at 97% related to a dll file but the setup finished successfully. That was yesterday and I even could run matlab to make some tests. It seemed that all worked fine. However, today, when I tried to ran matlab it didn't open. The process was running in background but the matlab window never came out.

YEAH! It worked this time. Thank you very much.
I've tried that once but I've disconnected the wrong network. I'm using an usb modem to connect me to the Internet trough cell phone signal and i'm connected to my home WLAN too. The first time I tried to disconnect WLAN instead of usb device and matlab didn't work. Now, matlab works just fine when I disconnect that usb modem.

I didn't have any trouble installing it under Windows 7 (Professional). I upgraded from Vista Home Premium to Win 7 Pro, so Win 7 Pro first backed up my user files (to "windows.old") and then did a clean install.

I wanted to get going with MATLAB, but had problems getting the download manager to work. (I first had to update Java to the 64-bit version, since I'm running everything in the 64-bit mode.) After that, I downloaded and ran the MATLAB Install program, since that's an option for downloading and installing MATLAB (see "Downloading from the Installer" on the "Downloads" page) and I didn't want to download all my toolboxes individually in real time. (I'm lazy.) I told it to download and install MATLAB R2009b overnight since the download and installation process takes a while even over a fast connection, and it doesn't need me to watch it. The next morning, MATLAB was completely installed, and was waiting for me to activate it. That took a couple seconds, and I was ready to go.

I haven't had any other problems, either. I was even able to get my MATLAB workfiles from "windows.old" and copy them to my "...\Documents\MATLAB\" directory. I have my "setup.m" routine set to discover all the paths in my user files and set them up in MATLAB's search path, so as soon as I copied it over to "\toolbox\local\", MATLAB ran perfectly.

I had R2009b installed under Vista, and noticed that MATLAB seems to run faster under Windows 7. I have a routine (that I was working on when I upgraded to Win 7) that keeps track of its runtime and reports it. Its runtime under Vista was 120 seconds, and under Win 7, 80 seconds, with no other changes. YMMV.

I don't know if this will work for the Student Version (mine is the "full-up" version). If the "Downloading from the Installer" option exists for the Student Version, it's worth a shot.

Just to give some additional info: I experienced the same problems installing 2009b on Windows 7. Disabling the LAN adapter solved the problem, installation went fine. Matlab wouldn't start with the LAN adapter enabled again, but when I closed down my VPN connection it did. So the bug (whichever it is) might have to do with VPN?

I had the same problem: I use Windows 7 86bit and setup of MATLAB
2009b was running in the background but didn`t work.
When I disconnected my VPN connection it worked, though I was still
connected to the internet.

I ran the setup in compatibility mode (XP Service Pack 3) and then set the compatibility of the Matlab executable to XP service pack 3 once setup was done. that fixed it for me.

I am having the same problem and it seems that the only solution is the one already provided above: Disconnect the internet (when using usb modem) when you start the program and after Matlab starts you can reconnect. I have the problem only when I am connected via usb modem, when I am connected via LAN or Wireless R2009b works just fine.

I have the r2006a and at first I couldn´t install it, so i did some google research and I found that, in order to install Matlab, you have to disable the Aerio graphic mode to the classical windows mode, so we´ll be able to install the thing...

But after that we´ll have another problem, Matlab´s uses it´s own JAVA, which is uncompatible with window´s, and there is a solution by replacing the JAVA folder bya new version... but here comes my problem, it´s unestable, sometimes it just falls...

I guess all of you are trying to install matlab 2009 on windows 7 from harddisk.
I have also faced same difficulty in doing that. My suggestion is to install it from DVD directly. First burn the image to a DVD then install it.
This will solve the problem.

I had the same problem in installing matlab, also in running matlab... the exe file runs in the background... when i disconnect my internet,it works fine... everything would have been ok.. but any standalone exe's that i created in matlab refuse to run....the dos window comes and the program goes to the background...it works if i disconnect the internet.... The worst thing is,im making a software which requires sending an email.... It would be nice if any1 could give me some info on how to solve this problem... if at all identify what the exact problem is.. thank u...

I had the same problem with Matlab R2007a. I could not install it on windows 7 64-bit. I have tried all the solutions posted on this page (internet connection, DVD...) but all did not work. It only worked after disabling Aero graphics and swtching to classical windows, as M. Fernando Torres Faúndez suggested. I then replaced the Java folder in Matlab with the newest Java update, and everything works very well now!!! (obviously, the problem happens because the Java version used in Matlab is very old, and not compatible with Windows 7 graphics).
This solution resolved the problem for the versions R2006a and R2007a. Maybe for the other versions, the problem is different.

I can't start Matlab without the internet because it needs to authenticate my copy through my vpn. Any alternative solutions to this?

I am able to install Matlab without any problem. And it even runs, but only in the background.

Thank you for your contribution in here and I am looking for the way to install and configure Matlab 2006a on Windows 7 Home Premium.
I found out some people saying that
1. Search matlab.exe
2. go to properties
3. go to compatiablity tab
4. choose to run in Windows XP SP2
5. Disable check box for desktop compatiablity and themes
However, I haven't tried out in real installation and configuration and just want to check whether the steps above correct or not.

I hope some one will advise me and looking forward to hearing from you soon.
