Can you render off screen w/o Plotting?

I want to modify an image offscreen, and *then* render it.

Is there an easy way to draw lines, circles, boxes etc... on an image w/o having to display the image and plot on it?

Or, do I have to write my own set of primatives?

Open the figure, set its 'Visible' property to 'off', make your
modifications, then set its 'Visible' property to 'on'.
