Because it's not available for 64-bit Windows; it's only supported on 32-bit
Windows.

I have a NI-USB 6009 board that is recognized in SIMULINK Data
aquisition tool box running in Windows XP using 32-bit MATLAB and
works perfect.
I am trying to make this recognized in SIMULINK Data aquisition tool
box running in Windows 7 using 32-bit MATLAB. I did install 64-bit
MATLAB on windows 7 but it does not have data aquisition tool box.
I think problem is that when i install drivers for this board on
Windows7 machine, it automatically installs 64bit, which are not
recognizable for 32bit-MATLAB.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks for your time.
Best regards...

i have 2 related questions:
1) will installing the 32-bit version of matlab on a 64 bit windows machine allow for the data acquisition toolbox?

2) are there plans to make it available in 64-bit some time in the future? I wanted to take advantage of using everything in 64 bit, but without the data acquisition, what's the point?

1) not likely as this is depending on the hw/sw interface (ie, drivers) and not on ML...
2) ...what's the point(?)... good point(!)...

Hi Neal,

Regarding your question #1 - see this solution
http://www.mathworks.com/support/solutions/en/data/1-1CAT7/?solution=1-1CAT7 for running 32 bit MATLAB on Windows 64.
There is a note that the parallel port cannot be accessed from Data Acquisition Toolbox.

Hope that helps,
Sherryl

So, your answer to the question "why isn't there a 64 bit version of the Data Acquisition Toolbox" is "it's not available" - great. A paying customer has a fair question (one alot of us have, actually), and your response was uninformative, unhelpful and perhaps a bit flippant. I would like to suggest that if you don't know the answer to a good question, you would better serve the Matlab user community by finding out and providing a useful response - as opposed to the one you've posted.

Hi,

This isn't an official support area -- Steve Lord and other MathWorkers post here out a genuine interest of helping people. Technical Support is the right place to go for official answers, and to log requests for functional you think we should add.

However, I have good news -- Data Acquisition Toolbox added support for 64-bit MATLAB in R2011a. It's avaliable to any customer on maintenance.
http://www.mathworks.com/products/daq/whatsnew.html

Data Acquisition Toolbox has always supported 32-bit MATLAB running on 64-bit Windows, if the hardware vendor supports it.

All the best,
-Rob
