How can you tell if you have an algebraic loop in a simulink model? Is there any way to show/highlight the blocks that are involved in an algebraic loop?

Two options:

1) Set algebraic loop to error in the diagnostics pane of configuration
parameters.

2) Use sldebug (see doc sldebug). Type sldebug modelname, then ashow.
When in debug mode you can type help to get more details on Simulink
debugger commands. You can also use the graphical version of the
Simulink debugger by clicking Tools -> Simulink Debugger in the model
window.
