Hey guys, Matlab has been working a dream for me on my windows 7 notebook. But I haven't used it for a while and now when i attempt to open Matlab, the icon appears on the start menu bar and then dissapears. If I check in Task Manager it says that Matlab is running and using up to 50% of my CPU, however there is no way I can access the program istelf.

In desperation I decided to uninstall and reinstall, however the same thing happened, the uninstaller opened then closed unexpectedly even though Task Manager reported it to still be running. Any ideas? Help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks a heap- Lachlan

If Matlab has been working properly and after some time not my guess is that a service update (Windows, Java, video driver) that has been installed in the meantime might be the reason. Maybe you changed the desktop of Windows 7 to a different, graphically more demanding, style (something like 'aero' in Vista)? In this case resetting the windows to a simpler layout style might help. A different Java version now? As the program runs in the background without an error message I'd have a look in the description of the service updates at anything that is related to the windows display.
Before a closer investigation you might try starting Matlab with some options
http://www.mathworks.com/access/helpdesk/help/techdoc/matlab_env/f8-4994.html
listed in section 'Commonly Used Startup Options' to get a clue what might be the reason.

If the uninstaller was successful in some way i.e. parts of your Matlab installation have been removed then of course you first need to have Matlab properly removed (contact support).

I'm having the same problem with MATLAB. I'm currently using MATLAB 2010 version and suddenly today it simply refuses to open. Whenever I try to start it, nothing seems to happen. Although, the task manager shows a separate task with considerable CPU consumption. When I tried to open it multiple times, nothing happened (again), but the task showed separate task all aiming for a percentage consumption of CPU in task manager.

I would really appreciate any help in this direction.
Thanks in advance.

Please contact Technical Support and/or your IT staff and work with them to
diagnose the cause of this startup issue. Some information that would be
useful to have available when you speak with Support would be:

* What changes were made to the computer between the last time the software
worked and the first time it did not. Did you or your IT staff install or
uninstall any programs, apply any OS patches, change your license server,
etc.
* Does MATLAB create any log files when you try to start it?
* If any of your colleagues/coworkers/friends have the same configuration
(MATLAB version, operating system, license server, etc.) can they start
MATLAB?
