  I recommend that you create various polynomials of, say, fifth or sixth degree, with random coefficients and make plots of them. Then envision the problem that is encountered trying to find their inverses.

  I call to your attention the 'roots' function, but you will discover that in general it will find a multiplicity of roots for any given polynomial.
