The first thing you should do when starting a thesis is RESEARCH. For
example, use "google scholar".

I looked at the description of the first 60 hits returned by Google
Scholar, and most of them were pretty relevant. Have you finished
reading through those already ?

ya i am going through those papers, but also need help with matlab, cause using this tool i have to do the research, isn't it?
Doing research isn't that easy. this is my first time i am going through this kind of research based work.as i have to submit it to complete my final year of B.SC in CSE.
any one experienced with research based works in image processing please suggest me.

"Image processing" is a huge area, so that's unlikely to be of any help
at all...you've picked a given subject and have started on a set of
papers there...

When you think you've enough background to begin to try to actually
implement something, then is when using a toolset comes into play.

For getting started in Matlab there is, interestingly enough, a chapter
in the online documentation entitled "Getting Started". There's a good
place to start... :)

There are also many texts built around using Matlab in many subjects;
you may find some of those have some useful more specific information.

I'm sure I've seen that ImageAnalyst has some tutorial-type information
he's posted; I'll defer to him rather than try to poke around and find
it again, but you could also use Google groups or the archives from the
TMW portal and the file exchange and discover his prolific output and
likely find them as well on your own...

A journey of begins with... :) Enjoy the trip.

A journey of a thousand pixels beings with a single spec ? (pun intended)

Yes. Go here:
http://iris.usc.edu/Vision-Notes/bibliography/contents.html
It has virtually every paper ever published on image processing.
