Duplicate directory name warning

Every time I start matlab I get "Warning: Duplicate directory name: /home/myusername/matlab."

This is on linux with 2010a. It doesn't seem to be hurting anything, but it's an annoyance. Any idea how to get rid of it? I looked in my path and there are no duplicates there (maybe matlab purged it?). I have no startup.m. Ideas?

Dear Chuck37,

How or where did you look in the your path?
Did you look in the "pathdef.m" file?

Kind regards, Jan

I just selected "set path" from the mouse menu and looked at it. Looking in pathdef.m, I don't see the same thing twice either. Thanks.

Do you see the folder causing problems in "pathdef.m"?
Is this folder replied by USERPATH also?
Any suspicious data in:
  getenv('MATLABPATH')
?

The folder is in both pathdef.m and MATLABPATH. There is also another folder in both places that does not generate a warning. Removing it from pathdef.m makes the warning go away, but pathdef.m warns against editing the file. Is there a proper way to fix this? Thanks.

Dear Chuck37,

The pathdef.m file is created by the command SAVEPATH or by pressing "Save" in the File->Set Path... GUI.
But I assume that having the USERPATH in the Matlab path has some advantages.

When does the warning appear? Before MATLABRC is called or afterwards? (You could insert a DISP command to check this). If it appears before MATLABRX runs, it should be cause by a duplicate environment path.

I admit, this is wild guessing. I still hope that some others have more experiences with the path under Linux.

Kind regards, Jan
