In software such as "ImageJ" or "Digital Micrograph", you can draw a profile across a feature and then tell the software to integrate across a finite width.

I'm trying to implement something similar via improfile(). Basically, I want to draw a profile across a feature and then get mean() and stdev() of the data a few pixels on either side (say, +/- 2 pixels, for a total width of 5 pixels) on either side of my improfile().

I'm getting something reasonable by busting out some trigonometry, (sin of this and cos of that), but I'm wondering if there's a more elegant and automated system?

Thanks!

Not that I'm aware of. That would be a nice feature enhancement
though.
