I'm curious if these is an automatic way of generating a Simulink block diagram given the transfer function. I know that we can go the other way using the function linmod.

I don't think there's any need to, since you have a transfer function block in Simulink, see:
http://www.mathworks.com/access/helpdesk/help/toolbox/simulink/slref/transferfcn.html

You can just plug in the transfer function coefficients as the block parameters and you're done. If you really want to automate the process, you can you functions like add_block and set_param.
