I was wondering whether matlab offers some kind of technique to expand the image. What I exactly would like to is to have something like:

0 1 1 0 0 0
0 0 1 1 1 0
0 0 0 1 1 0
0 0 0 0 0 0

to become:

1 1 1 1 0 0
1 1 1 1 1 1
0 1 1 1 1 1
0 1 1 1 1 1
0 0 1 1 1 1

Would appreciate if somebody could guide me a little.

Use the imdilate function in the Image Processing Toolbox. Also take
a look at bwmorph.
