Tabs in guis

I'm in the process of designing a new gui at work. There are so many different user inputs that it seems to make sense to use a tab sysem, this seems to look neater and cleaner to me than using pop-ups.

My question is that uitabgroup and uitab are undocumented and Matlab has stated that their functionality could well change in the future, which might necessitate a code re-write. I'm wondering how likely this is and whether backwards compatibility is likely to be maintained (I'm guessing not if it's undocumented).

The other option I guess is to try and mimic tabs using something like toggle buttons, this seems a waste of time though being as there is something there that currently works!

What have you guys done?

Does anyone know if there are plans to support the tab feature in future versions?

Many thanks
