Thread Subject: DEM format problems

I am having trouble finding data in .DEM format that is the same as the MATLAB sanfranciscos.dem file in the matlab demo. Is there a site that gives me the data in the same format? I have tried the usgs website, but the data is in .dts, or .bil format? Where can I find data that is in the right MATLAB format. Also, could you point me in the direction of a website that can convert non .dem data sets into the .dem data set that matlab can read.
