As far as I can tell F77 1.8 is not available. I've Googled quite a bit
for it. My source for 1.9 is
<http://www.openwatcom.org/index.php/Download>. It gives me:
open-watcom-f77-win32-1.9.exe.

When I installed, there are only two choices: Custom, which presumably
will ask a lot of questions, and some one shot do-it without any
intervention selection. I took the latter.

..., XP, and no Win7? I use Win7. Trouble??

Something is amiss with my install. I downloaded 1.9. I did not use any
customization.

I can bring up the IDE easily. Using it is a different matter. The
only Getting Started in F77 manual I can find is shown as v1.8. If 1.9
is needed, I can't find it. If I use the 1.8 manual, then the contents
don't match up with what I find in the F77 IDE. For example, the manual
talks about a Kitchen project on page 15. Not found anywhere in the
install folder.

I think asking for help on this in the comp.lang.fortran newsgroup (as
dannagle at verizon suggested in response to your question on this mailing
list) is a good idea. It seems to me to be more on-topic there than here on
CSSM.

Or you could follow the advice Rob Pemberton gave you in comp.lang.misc:

Possibly I posted twice here. I never saw my first post, so repeated and
don't recognize these people. I'll give it a look.

I have an odd problem with new NG sites. TBird removes them at the next
update on my system, or re-boot. TBird seems to get updates every few
days, and I've been modify some programs or adding new ones of late.
I've been on this NG for a long time. comp.lang.misc and the one fortran
are affected by this behavior. It's like I'm almost back to square one
each time I go to new sites.

Nonsense. Your headers show you're using eternal-september.org's
newsfeed; it's there.

Not a single thing about fortran.

Nevertheless, I'm making progress.
