I am going to use the harmonic balance method to solve nonlinear ODE. anyone has a matlab code to help me to understand how the harmonic balance works?

I don't think code will help you to understand.
I think you need to read a textbook for that.
Alternatively, if all you want is the code, try Google.
I found 75,000 hits for harmonic balance matlab.
